Stefan graduated from the University of Melbourne with degrees in medicine, arts and medical science. He subsequently completed his RANZCOG fellowship in obstetrics and gynaecology in 2013, and his subspecialty certification in maternal fetal medicine in 2018. Stefan has also been awarded the Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound from the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine.
Stefan’s training in maternal fetal medicine has afforded him experience in managing complex, high risk pregnancies. He has a particular interest in preterm birth prevention, multiple pregnancy, fetal abnormalities, and maternal medical disorders in pregnancy, but is equally happy caring for women with uncomplicated pregnancies. He is the head of the Fetal Medicine Unit and acting head of the Diabetes Unit at the Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne, where he is engaged in teaching and mentoring medical students and junior doctors at all levels.
Academically, Stefan is nearing the end of a PhD through the University of Melbourne Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and holds an appointment as an honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in the same department. He has published over 35 papers in peerreviewed journals, and regularly presents at local and international scientific meetings. Stefan serves as honorary Secretary on the Council of the Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand, and is a member of the steering committees for the Women’s and Newborn Health network of the Melbourne Academic Centre for Health, and the Interdisciplinary Maternal Perinatal Australasian Collaborative Trials (IMPACT) Network of the Perinatal Society of Australia and New Zealand.
