Dr Carin Black

Pregnancy can be one of life’s most transformative experiences. It can bring joy and anticipation, but also uncertainty. I am Dr Carin Black, an experienced Obstetrician in Melbourne. I believe every woman deserves to feel heard, understood, and empowered throughout her pregnancy and birth, with continuity of care from a familiar face at every visit. Whether you are planning your first baby, have a routine low risk pregnancy, are navigating a complex medical history, or recovering from pregnancy loss, you deserve care that genuinely supports you. I would be honoured to walk alongside you during this special chapter.

Dr Carin Black is a compassionate Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who strongly believes in providing individualised, evidence-based, holistic care to women before, during and after pregnancy, to allow informed choices and optimal outcomes.

After growing up in Melbourne, Carin obtained her Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery Degree (MBBS) through the University of Adelaide. She returned to Melbourne after her undergraduate degree and discovered her passion for Obstetrics whilst working a rotation in Women's Health. This led to her undertaking Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialist training through the Royal Women's Hospital and obtaining her FRANZCOG qualification in 2014, which included a year of accredited training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM). Carin completed a Research Higher Degree in 2019 through the University of Melbourne, focusing on the pregnancy-related condition, pre-eclampsia. She has published numerous scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals in this area.

Since qualifying as an Obstetrician in 2014, Carin has maintained regular employment in specialty clinics in major tertiary hospitals. She holds a public appointment at the Royal Women's Hospital and currently works in both the Multiple Pregnancy and Maternal Medicine Clinics. She also maintains regular exposure to tertiary labour ward management through the Royal Women's Hospital.

Carin enjoys being engaged in teaching at all levels, from medical students to advanced medical trainees, and holds an honorary position as a Clinical Senior Lecturer in the University of Melbourne Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Carin has an appreciation and passion for quality and safety within the healthcare system, and has recently completed her Clinical Improvement Fellowship certificate through Safer Care Victoria and the Royal Women's Hospital, which will allow continuing involvement in this important and contemporary area of healthcare.

With two young children of her own, time outside work is mainly spent with family and friends, but in her precious spare time, Carin enjoys reading, running, pilates, camping and any form of travel.
