Frances Perry House specialist Renee Wong

Dr Renee Wong

MBBS (University of Melbourne), FRANZCOG

A proud women’s health and LGBTQ advocate, Dr Renee Wong has been a member of Women’s Obstetric and Gynaecology Specialists (www.womensogs.com.au) at Frances Perry House since 2011.

Born in Melbourne and a graduate of the University of Melbourne, Renee had always planned to become a GP when, while studying for a diploma in obstetrics, she realised that she wanted her career to focus on caring for those on the path to parenthood - from pre-pregnancy advice and antenatal care through to childbirth and postnatal care.  The sleepless nights and irregular working hours didn’t deter her; in fact, they gave Renee a sense of purpose and further fuelled her passion for her work. She completed her specialist training at all three tertiary centres in Melbourne: Monash Medical Centre, Mercy Hospital for Women and The Women’s Hospital in Parkville.

In 2009, she was a recipient of the prestigious Brown Craig Travelling Scholarship, awarded by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG). This honour enabled her to complete a year of subspecialty training as a Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellow in Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. During this time, Renee gained further skills in fetal ultrasound and experience in the management of high-risk pregnancies complicated by preterm labour, fetal illness, and maternal medical disorders. She also managed Sinai’s very busy high-risk obstetric labour ward while researching the management of twin pregnancy, placental insufficiency, and medication safety in pregnancy. These experiences have informed her clinical interest in the management of multiple pregnancy and maternal medical disorders.

As well as being a private obstetrician at Frances Perry House, Renee is a consultant obstetrician at The Women’s Hospital, and she enjoys teaching and mentoring junior staff and medical students.

Renee believes in bringing positive energy to her work, and this – combined with her warmth and sense of humour – leads to her building the kind of relationships with her patients and their families that enhance their experiences of pregnancy and birth.

Outside of work, Renee enjoys cardio and strength training and is currently completing a certificate 3 and 4 in fitness - and is so thrilled to be able to combine her expertise in women’s health care with advice regarding healthy physical activity.  To say that Renee loves food would be an understatement, and she’s a devout believer in the benefits of travel - but her favourite thing of all is spending time with her partner and their two sets of twin children!
