Jonathan Burge completed his plastic surgical training in New Zealand then undertook a further two years of subspecialty training in craniomaxillofacial surgery. He completed a year at the prestigious Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto in paediatric craniofacial surgery. He then went on to work as a head and neck surgeon in Cochin, Southern India. Here he was involved in resecting and reconstructing challenging head and neck cancers. He also undertook a cosmetic surgical fellowship for six months at The New Zealand Institute of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery.
Jonathan is section chief of Craniofacial Surgery at The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne. Here he works as a paediatric cleft and craniofacial, and plastic surgeon and is actively involved in teaching and clinical management of complex craniofacial cases. He operates privately at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, both Kew and East Melbourne Campus (previously Mercy Private), Cotham Private Hospital and Frances Perry.
Jonathan is a member of Interplast Australia and New Zealand and commits time to volunteer work in the Asia Pacific region every year. Jonathan’s philosophy is to provide optimum quality care in a caring and relaxed environment where there is free and easy communication between surgeon, patient and their primary care physician.
Jonathan Burge’s other interests include hanging out with his wife and unruly daughters, guitar, long distance running and yoga.
