Dr Stephen Cole is an experienced Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with an interest in low to high risk pregnancy care, multiple pregnancies, recurrent miscarriage evaluation and treatment, maternally-assisted caesarean section, maternal-fetal medicine and fetal surgery consultation.
He takes a holistic approach to pregnancy care, ensuring partners, family and others are involved in the process and recognizing that pregnancy is one of the most important, exciting and often stressful times in a woman’s life. He has a calm and gentle manner and is willing to listen and understand patients to ensure they and their partners feel safe, supported and engaged in their pregnancies.
Dr Cole restricts the number of patients he cares for to allow greater time with each patient and be available on call almost all of the time. This has enabled him to attend the birth of approx, 95% of the women under his care. For the rare times he is unavailable, he has a small group of highly respected obstetricians with whom he participates in a cover arrangement. He also has a midwife in his practice to provide wellness advice, birth planning and breast feeding support and general guidance to patients.
Dr Cole has a public hospital consultant appointment at the Royal Women’s Hospital, as well as his private appointment at Frances Perry House, where he heads one of the four Obstetric Units and the Multiple Pregnancy Clinic which he has been involved with for over 12 years. In addition, he heads the Royal Women’s Fetal Therapies program, and is also the Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine(MFM) training at the hospital, where specialists are trained and experienced in caring for women with the highest risk and most complex pregnancies.
