Dr Leah Xu (She/Her)

MBBS, FRANZCOG

Obstetrics and Gynaecology have always been my passion in medicine. As early as my university days, I have always been fascinated by pregnancy and childbirth. I feel lucky to have fallen in love with a field of medicine that can bring so much joy into families lives and feels very privileged to share such life changing moments with her patients.

I enjoy getting to know each and every family throughout their pregnancy journey by taking my time at antenatal visits, so that my patients feel both comforted and educated. I understand the importance of individualised care for each person and is recognised for her warm and friendly, yet professional manner. Part of my care also includes regular scans in my consulting rooms. In particular, I perform third trimester growth scans at select appointments.

I was Born in Shanghai, China and migrated to Australia at the age of 12 with my family.  I completed my medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 1997. Since then, I have completed my Specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology training, and was awarded the Gold Medal for performance in the Australian and New Zealand Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Specialist Examination. I subsequently undertook a fellowship in Laparoscopic Surgery at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Melbourne. I offers pregnancy care in both English and Mandarin.

I am proud to be a part of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consulting Group, a group of five female Obstetricians Dr Jean Wong, Dr Perri Dyson, Dr Natalia Khomko and Dr Robin Thurman), and also Gynaecologists, Midwives, a Lactation Consultant, Dietitian and Women’s Health Physios. The practice is able to provide a multi-disciplinary team to support all aspects of patient care.

In addition to my private practice, I am also a consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Frances Perry House and the Royal Women’s Hospital. I enjoy participating in the training and mentoring of young doctors and medical students. I am a training supervisor at the Royal Women’s Hospital and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG). I like to keep up-to-date with the latest advances in Obstetrics and Gynaecology through ongoing professional development activities and conferences.
